Coquinas Clams at Mustang Island

Living in Lubbock, TX, I can’t say that I get to explore the coast as much I would like. At Mustang Island State Park, small, brightly colored, burrowing Coquinas clams sunk into the sand with the help of the tide. They tread water until the conditions are right to bury themselves. With each individual wave, a whole bed of clams can appear or disappear. I learned to scrape my foot along the sand to uncover those clams freshly buried. For the first time, I was able to see live clams in the ocean. What a fun day at the beach!
